Image description

Swiss Hornusser Festival, pictured in Thun, Canton of Berne, Switzerland, in the summer of 1933. The Swiss traditional sport of Hornussen is a cross between baseball and golf. The sport gets its name from the puck which is known as a 'Hornuss” (hornet) or 'Nouss'. When hit, it can whizz through the air at up to 300 km/h and create a buzzing sound. The batter bats the puck in the oponent's field, where the team tries to put it down with the help of wooden plates on long sticks
