Tomb of Qar (photo)

The tomb of Qar, numbered G 7101 in the Eastern Cemetery, lies to the west of the tomb of Idu, G 7102, and in the north of the entire Eastern Cemetery with its famous and prestigious tombs of the royal family of the Fourth Dynasty, e.g., the mastaba of prince Kawab, G 7110-7120, the tomb of Meresankh III, G 7530, and many other important tombs. Six engaged statues occupy the south wall of the Statue Chamber in Qar’s tomb. The statues were rock-cut in a niche. The first four, from left to right, represent the same figure with shoulder-length flared wigs, short skirts, half-pleated on the right, arms hanging with fists closed. It seems likely that these four figures represent Qar during his youth. The fifth statue is of a small boy; he is not dressed and he’s depicted without a wig with his arms at his sides. The sixth statue, which represents Qar at a later stage in his life, wears a tight wig and a large mid-calf length flared skirt with cross ribbing. His right hand is open and resting on his skirt with the closed-fisted left hand at his side. Above the niche there is a hieroglyphic inscription which reads: “Tenant farmer of Meryre-mennefer, king’s letter scribe in the presence, sab official, overseer of the scribes of all the works, Qar.
