Tynemouth (watercolour and bodycolour on paper)

Richardson, Edward drawing, watercolour and bodycolour on paper, entitled Tynemouth, by the artist Edward Richardson Edward Richardson painted many watercolours of the dramatic view of the Priory and the lighthouse on the cliffs at Tynemouth. Changing tents on wheels (known as bathing machines) can be seen on the beach in this scene. The composition is built up from carefully applied overlapping washes of colour, with highlights in opaque watercolour. The attractive light blue and pink colours of the scene are characteristic of Edward Richardson's style. He was one of a distinguished family of local artists.
