Sennett RICHARD (1 January 1943) American sociologist and literary critic, Senior Advisor to the United Nations for the Program on Climate Change and Cities, Senior Fellow at the Center on Capitalism and Society at Columbia University and Visiting Professor of Urban Studies at MIT. In 1975 he founded the New York Institute for the Humanities, which he directed until 1984. His most revolutionary work was “Uses of disorder” (1970, Italian translation 1999) in which he argued that the ideal of a planned and order was imperfect, producing a fragile and restrictive urban environment.
