Oslo 1987-05-21: Big demonstrations in May 1987, when the US Defense Minister Caspar Weinberger visits Norway. Hard clashes between police and protesters demonstrating against the United States and NATO at the US embassy on May 12 and 14, 1987. Around 80 protesters were brought in. Later, 20 are arrested, including Stein Lillevolden in a dramatic police action at Stortorvets Gjæstgiveri. Police Chief Willy Haugli receives strong criticism. Nearly 10,000 demonstrates. Hamar Police Chamber is investigating the Oslo campaign. A report confirms the criticism, but does not hold responsibility.
