Image title
Engraving by Yon painter and engraver, 1836-1897) for a story by Paul Verne (brother of Jules Verne) on an ascent to Mont Blanc in 1871. Cabane des Grands-Mulets: “After passing the Junction, we follow for some time the Tacconay glacier and we arrive at the coast that leads to the Grand-Mulets, rocks of 200 meters high, overlooking the Bossons glacier on one side, on the other the sloping plains of neve that extend to the foot of the dome du Gouter. A small cabin built by the guides towards the top of the first rock and located at an altitude of 3050 meters, gives asylum to travellers and allows them to wait in the shelter for the time of leaving for the summit of Mont Blanc. You can dine there as you can and sleep there as well. But the proverb “who sleeps in” makes no sense at this height, because neither can be done seriously.”
