Miss Betty Cadd b.1903, age 82. Started work in the cotton mills aged 12. She worked on a capstan lathe making parts for Wellington bombers during WW2, returning to the cotton mills after the war. She has suffered from rickets all her life, due to a poor diet deficient in vitamin D as a child. 1985 (photo) This photograph is part of a project that was titled 'Oldham '85: Care of the Elderly', it was completed during the summer months of 1985. It was part of a series of photographs that recorded through portraits and interviews the lives of residents living in sheltered accommodation in the former cotton town of Failsworth, Oldham, Greater Manchester, UK. Sheltered accommodation is designed for people who are elderly or have disabilities enabling them to live independently, but may need occasional help or support. Brief excerpts from their interview are included in the captions.
