Series - The 53 Stations of the Tokaido Japanese Series - Tokaido gojunsantsugi no uchi Publisher - Hoeido Chiryu was famous for being an area to see Japanese iris in the spring. In the summer, horse fairs were common at the station. In 1832 Hiroshige was invited to join the Togugawa Shogunate on their journey to Kyoto. Hiroshige produced many drawings as he travelled the Tokaido Way, which informed the designs for this series.
