Image description

Thompson M1 .45 inch sub-machine gun used by the Indian Army in the Burma Campaign, 1943 (c). This model was a cheaper and more sturdy wartime issue of the Model 1928A1 ‘Tommy-Gun’. The famous drum magazine was replaced by a 20 or 30-shot box magazine. A heavy weapon, the Thompson was much prized in Burma as the action was much more reliable than the Sten Gun. The heavier .45 inch bullet also had great stopping power.
