Webley .455 inch Mk I* service revolver, pattern 1894. The heavy Enfield revolvers introduced in 1880 were not popular and were replaced in 1887 with Webley and Son’s Mk 1, which cost 61 shillings (£3 1s.) each. This compact revolver with a four-inch barrel became the standard British Army sidearm and remained in service, with various modifications, into the 1930s and beyond. This example was originally a Mk I 1887 pattern but when repaired was brought up to Mk I* (the equivalent of Mk II) standard in 1894. It was issued to the Devon Officer Training Corps in 1912.
