The Siege of Colchester by the Lord Fairfax, as it was with the line and outworks 1648. Engraving published 1648 circa. A birds-eye view of the town and surrounding area, forts and positions of the parliamentary army. The siege lasted for 11 weeks and despite suffering extreme hardship and hunger, Lord Norwich’s Royalist garrison only surrendered following news of the defeat of the Royalist army in the North of England at the Battle of Preston (1648).
