La mitologia degli estimatori della casa vuole che la forma assolutamente unica del Formichino sia stata plasmata direttamente nella creta da scultore da Donnino Rumi dopo averne fissato il motore su due cavalletti. Di fatto la carrozzeria portante di questo gigantesco insetto meccanico è fusa in lega d'alluminio in due sole parti: quella anteriore incorpora serbatoio, forcella e faro, quella posteriore tutto il resto. Ebbe qualche successo anche nelle competizioni, vincendo il ventinovesimo Bol d'Or, al quale fece seguito una piccola tiratura di Formichini con questo nome. Dal 1958 la produzione fu ceduta in licenza alla belga Sarolea.
