19th-century painting of an interior at Hampton Court Palace The room is filled with paintings, furniture and ceramics from the Royal Collection. The high-backed chair in the centre of the room, upholstered with crimson figured velvet and edged with fringing, was acquired by King William III (1689-1702). The man seated in the background is possibly John Grundy, a minor official in the Royal Household, holding the position of Groom of the Great Chamber between 1823 and 1837. He was married to the palace housekeeper and until 1855 was responsible for the opening of the palace to the public and the security of its treasures Artist: Unknown
