On the back of this photograph John James Frowde writes, "Entrance from Quay to Bond Lane for years prior to demolition, but actually the lower portion of Durie Lane. 'Welsh the Bird-Catchers' was no 1 Durie Lane; and the ancient house opposite was Joe Hogg's 'Hare and Hounds' Inn.' Additional note: 'Mrs Christian, widow of Robt C., engineer (chief) of the 'Prince of Wales' was by her own a/c to her family, born in this old pub. Her maiden name was doubtless Hogg, because old Joe was proprietor in 1863 (Thwaites' bk). Easily checked by her daughter Belle in Buck's Road - 'Hollyhurst', whose father was a good friend of mine years ago."
