Allusion to the legend according to which Chu-Ko-Liang, a minister of the Emperor Liu-Pei, who reigned from 181 to 234 A.D., routed an enemy fleet after having obtained a favourable wind through his prayers. The picture shows the great patriot mounted on a war junk and brandishing the fan that blows fire on the ship of the western barbarians. The fire destroys the ship, the Chinese text adds, and the pirates all die in the flames.
