Housing and shops, construction 2006, architect Christian de Portzamparc, Almere in the Netherlands. At the gates of Amsterdam, Almere is a new town built on a polder. Barely thirty years after the installation of the first pioneers, Almere became the eighth city in the country with nearly 180,000 inhabitants. A veritable laboratory for reflection on urban planning, the heart of the city has just been rethought and remodeled by Rem Koolhaas, who has designed its plans.
