Robert Knox Sneden (1832-1918) was a map-maker for the Union Army during the American Civil War; his seven volume diary concerns his service in the 40th New York Infantry Division and as a topographical engineer in the III Corps, Army of the Potomac; during the Peninsula Campaign March-July 1862; Yorktown was captured by the Confederacy during the Siege and Battle of Yorktown 5th April-4th May 1862;
