First performance of Tannhäuser in Paris

First performance of Tannhäuser in Paris, illustrated by Alphonse-Marie-Adolphe de Neuville. Tannhäuser, a three act opera by Richard Wagner, was first performed in Paris on 13 March, 1861, at the Salle Le Peletier of the Paris Opera. However, it was marred by interruptions by members of the Jockey Club de Paris in the audience, who objected to the ballet taking place in Act I, meaning that they would have to be present from the beginning of the opera.
