Wounded soldiers at Longleat Hall, the seat of the Marquis of Bath; Lord & Lady Bath had originally offered the house up as a convalescent home for officers after hearing the news of the wounded troops retreating from Mons. However, Dr Barton has advised that it is the soldiers of other ranks rather than the officers that are in need of hospital places. He told us ‘We are sadly in need of beds for our Tommies, and they are such splendid fellows’ – so this is what has been agreed upon
