The Sikorsky plane S-35, with the Captain René Fonck and Lieutenant Curtin, wanted to try. As first a non-stop flight from New York to Paris, in front of a hangar of the Sikorsky Corporation at the airport Roosevelt Field on Long Island. Fonck designed the plane jointly with Igor Sikorsky. On 26 September 1926, Fonck then took the first launch attempt, but which had to be interrupted due to problems on the tank. At the second attempt a few days later, it came to a crash landing in which two crew members were killed. Before Fonck could make a new attempt, Charles August Lindbergh was already the first who had successfully handled a transatlantic flight on 20-21. May 1927.
