Image description

This painting, either Kangra or Mandi, depicts a famous scene from Hindu mythology where Lord Krishna (human manifestation of Vishnu), in his chariot, helps Lady Rukmini (incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi) to escape her marriage to Prince Shishupala of Chedi. Rukmini and Krishna, deeply in love with each other, flee to Krishna's fortress home in Dwaraka where they marry.
