Oil painting on canvas, A Woman spinning in a Farmyard Setting, in the manner of Francis Wheatley RA (London 1747 – London 1801). 1780-1790.The woman, full-length, wears a cap and is dressed in blue and white. She sits by the side of the road behind a spinning wheel, with a dog beside her on the right. There are buildings either side and the road stretches into the distance with trees, a cottage and a cloudy sky. (Canvas damaged). Wheatley developed the nostalgia, then current, for the simplicity of cottage life. This painting shows signs of damage, probably due to bad restoration. Calke Abbey, Derbyshire (Accredited Museum)
