Image title
The fleet of Otaheite assembled at Oparre. Society islands. Painted by William Hodges and engraved by W. Woollett. Shows a double-hulled war canoe in the foreground, with a figure in a tall white-feathered headdress at the left end, and about fifteen men sitting on the boat's platform. In the right background are two other boats of the same design, flying small square sails tied to the high stern ends. Hodges made the original picture in May 1774 or later, on Cook's second voyage.
