The Annunciation. The Angel appears to the Virgin, who is seated under a domed baldachino, a symbol of the heavens, indicating her eminence as the Mother of Christ. She is shown reading, with her right hand on an open book, and holding a golden object in her left hand. The Angel's right hand is raised in benediction, and he bears a sceptre in his left hand.
