Dress (detail) worn by Queen Victoria (1837-1901). Ivory silk satin with cream gauze overlay and embroidered panels with flowers and leaves executed in silk and metal threads in satin stitch The dress was worn by Queen Victoria and given by her in the 1850s to the interior decorator John Gregory Crace (1809-89), for his wife Sarah Jane Hine Langley (1815-94) who was of similar stature. This was in gratitude for his role in the Great Exhibition of 1851. The dress was originally worn with a Honiton lace bertha (deep collar)
