Painted clay figure traditionally identified as David Garrick, c.1770 (ceramic)

David Garrick (19 February 1717 – 20 January 1779), English actor, playwright, theatre manager and producer. The realistically modelled figure standing in relaxed pose, leaning on his left arm against a gnarled pine tree dotted with lichen, looking forward with a confident direct gaze, and wearing a real-hair wig and a simulated silver-blue banyan resembling embroidered silk over a grey-blue waistcoat with gold-brocaded fringe and buttons, partially open to reveal a shirt gathered at a high collar, the buckled black shoes with gold embroidered black stockings, the rusticated ground of greyish-green colour within a fretwork border, head detachable, minor restoration, now in a glazed case.
