MEXICAN FERNANDO TELLEZ PAINTS WITH HIS FEET, 1998-07-29 (photo)

Fernando Tellez Estrada dabs his paintbrush with oil paint with one foot as he holds a second paintbrush in his other foot as he paints a landscape at the Association of Painters Without Hands in Mexico City July 28. Fernando is a member of an association of handicapped artists. The association exists in 40 countries and is run by the artists themselves, who, in exchange for a regular wage, paint pictures which are then reproduced in Christmas cards and calendars. Fernando said that he had great trouble finding a job due to his disability but that his earnings from the association have allowed him to live a productive life, get married and raise a family. AW/GB
