Pedestrians near the Messe fairgrounds at Masuhrenallee in Berlin - Westend. 1st May 1937. The building was completed in 1937 just in time for the 700th anniversary celebration of Berlin. On May 1st Adolf Hitler (1889 - 1945), chancellor of Germany,  delivered a speech at the Lustgarten next to the Dome in front of an audience of 1.5 million people. The Nazi government had declared May 1st to be “Day of National Labor” in 1933.
