Manned Space Flight, USA, Apollo 10 Apollo 10 Saturn V rocket, 1969. The rocket is pictured on its mobile launch platform, leaving the Vehicle Assembly Building at the Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral, Florida, on its way to Launch Pad B of Complex 39. After being assembled in the Vehicle Assembly Building, the 500,000 lb unfilled Saturn V and its 12 million lb mobile launch platform were carried along the crawler way to the launch site by a transporter travelling at less than 1 mph. The distance travelled was either 3.5 or 5 miles, depending on the launch pad to be used. Crewed by astronauts Thomas Stafford, John Young and Eugene Cernan, Apollo 10 successfully completed a lunar orbital mission in May 1969 as the dress rehearsal for the actual Apollo 11 Moon landing, which took place two months later. ©SSPL/NASA
