Madonna and Child with St. Dorothy, St. Catherine and Two Musician Angels (Main title) Anonymous; Da Pandino, Antonio; Lombard School Two angels crown the Virgin, seated on a throne. She has interrupted her reading to calm the restless Infant Jesus. On either side, St. Dorothea and St. Catherine, accompanied by their attributes and the palm of martyrdom, gaze at the Child, while two angels play music.This devotional painting represents the celestial sphere, separated from the terrestrial sphere by the presence of the step. It invites the faithful to meditate. The format of the panel, its lunette crown, and its gilded frame with pilasters and entablature, suggest that it was intended for an altar.The painting was not attributed to Antonio da Pandino until the very end of the 20th century.
