Codex Selden (Codex Añute): Mixtec pictorial manuscript ( ñee ñuhu ), 1556 × 1560s. MS. Arch. Selden. A.2, p. 16. Starting at bottom (continuation of p. 15). Band I (left to right). After defeating his father-in-law (see p. 15-IV) and thereby retaining the throne, it appears that M 3 Death 'Grey Eagle' has a daughter named 9 Deer 'Quetzal Mask', who marries M 1 Flower 'Quetzal', lord of Hill of the Yellow Disk (Comaltepec). He is very likely to be the son of M 9 Tiger 'Tiger-Sun' and of his paternal aunt 5 House 'Sun Headdress' (depicted on p. 15-I). Via a trail of footprints leading towards line II, we are told that the princess 9 Deer 'Quetzal Mask' later goes to the town of Alligator Skin-Temple of Smoke; but it is not stated whether she has another marriage ceremony with the lord of this place. M 3 Death's second daughter 8 Lizard 'Quetzalcoatl' marries 3 Wind 'Flint', lord of Feather Carpet-Twisted Red Hill'. Band II (right to left). Princess 9 Deer 'Quetzal Mask' goes to the town of Alligator Skin-Temple of Smoke. On the day 9 Wind of the year 3 Flint (1444), M 3 Death 'Grey Eagle' dies (note closed eyes used to symbolise death). His son 1 Monkey 'Tlaloc-Sun', at the age of 32, marries 7 Water 'Sun-Quetzals' on the day 4 Alligator of the year 6 Reed. Band III (left to right). 7 Water 'Sun-Quetzals' is the daughter of M 4 Flower 'Eagle-Quetzals' and F 7 Vulture 'Quetzals, second kings of the Fourth Dynasty of Tilantongo de[icted to the left. On the day 5 Serpent of the year 8 House (1449), M 1 Monkey 'Tlaloc-Su' has to defend his city Belching Mountain from the attack of M 3 Monkey 'Tiger-Fire' (he could be the same as M 3 Monkey 'Tiger-Fire-Torch', lord of Mouth-Spiderweb mentioned in Codex Bodley). Band IV (right to left). M 4 Serpent 'Eagle-Blood-Quetzals-Sun Xiuhcoatl' is born in the year 10 Reed (1451); his father is 1 Monkey 'Tlaloc-Sun'. The latter is married for a second time probably in the same year to 10 (?) Movement 'Rhomb-Sun', thereby becoming the lord of Quetzaltepec. His wife was the daughter of M 1 Reed and F 1 Death (no surname), lords of Xipe Bundle, depicted to the left.
