The facility is part of a larger compound that was mostly destroyed during the 7.3 magnitude earthquake that hit Haiti on 12th January 2010. Many children and staff were killed during the disaster and the compound is currently sheltering more than 100 people displaced by the quake. According to a Haitian Government report, over 212, 000 people were killed; 1.1 million made homeless by the quake and about 450, 000 of the displaced are children.
