Image description

Francoise Vannier takes readings of the electomagnetic fields under the soil of the famous Copan Ruins in Copan, Honduras. A team of archaeologists from the University of Paris is taking the readings as part of a project to map the early periods of Mayan civilization as well as checking the movement of underground rivers that may affect buried structures. The ruins where declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations in 1980, and efforts to conserve the site for future generations are still being made by private and govermental organizations, such as the University of Paris.
