A newspaper alleged on September 5, 2000 that Nava, the officer who arrested Cavallo, ex-director of a national vehicle registration scheme, was in fact imprisoned for auto theft himself. The newspaper alleges that Nava, while he was a federal judicial police agent, was involved in a criminal ring that stole cars in the U.S. and brought them back to for resale in Mexico. AW
