Wrecking his life to save a dog (Colour Litho)

He's fighting his life to save a dog. Dennis Bridges, a young man from Luton (England), hears the yelp of a dog caught with a paw between rail exchanges. He knows that the passage of the Manchester-London espresso is imminent; he already hears the roar of the machine, he sees its lights. It runs the same. He manages to save the dog, but he is run over by the locomotive and hurled far away. Taken to the hospital, Dennis undergoes an amputation of his leg. When he wakes up from narcosis, he asks about the dog. They tell him that he's alive. He goes back to sleep happy. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 22 May 1955.
