Image description

The ruler of the Carrera. Umberto Maglioli, on Ferrari, won the fifth edition of the great sports car race that crosses Mexico for 3070 kilometers, breaking the race record by more than half an hour held by world champion Manuel Fangio on Lancia. Maglioli is twenty-six years old and is therefore one of the youngest among our famous drivers. He was born in Biella and is the son of a surgeon. He completed all the stages of the race without a mechanic on board his very fast car, capable of reaching 300 kilometers per hour. I didn't want to, he said, make another mom cry if anything happened to me. Maglioli has become the idol of the Mexican aficionados who accompanied him throughout the long dizzying sprint with their enthusiasm. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 5 December 1954.
