Shootout in Parliament (Colour Litho)

Shootout in Parliament. In the room of the Legislative Assembly in Maceio, capital of the State of Alagoas (Brazil), after a heated debate on the position of Governor Muniz Falcao, the president decided on a necessary stop for appease the tempers. Some deputies took advantage of the interruption to get hold of weapons. At the recovery, governments and opponents began to insult each other again; then from the opposition benches a gunshot was fired. It was the signal of the shooting that ended with the deaths of two deputies. Five others suffered more or less serious injuries. Illustration for Courier Sunday, 29 September 1957.
