After the Allies' accidental bombing of the Swiss town of Stein am Rhein in the canton of Schafffhausen on February 22, 1945 during the Second World War, soldiers of the Swiss Army guarded the Saerge with two recovered corpses. The bombing killed nine people, seriously injured 15, totally destroyed six houses, and damaged 28 buildings, some of them severely.
