The image shows a portrait photograph of Baron von Rothschild sitting up in a hospital bed surrounded by books and papers. At the lower margin of the image is written "John D. Schiff, New York" in pencil. The verso of the photograph has a John D. Schiff photographer stamp and "Baron Rothschild" written in pencil.
Baron Eugène Daniel von Rothschild (1884 - 1976) was a member of the notable Rothschild family. He was descended from the Austrian branch of the family. He served in the World War I in the Austrian Imperial Army. Shortly after the beginning of World War II Eugéne left for Long Island. He lived in New York City and Long Island but eventually left to live in Monte Carlo where he died in 1976.
