After an announcement that debris from the space shuttle Columbia will be brought to Cape Canaveral, some observers believe that all or some of Columbia would be buried here after the vehicle is reconstructed. The 90-foot-deep silos were used for testing and development of the Minuteman I and II intercontinental ballistic missiles, logging 92 launches between 1961 and 1970.
