A TEENAGER REACTS AS SHE RECEIVES 25 VALENTINE ROSES IN ROTTERDAM, 1998-02-13 (photo)

Dutch student Noortje van Balen (R) reacts as a school mate Jolie van Gool takes twenty-five Valentine roses out of a basked which were given to her by twenty-five admirers on the day before Valentines day at the Emmhaus school in Rotterdam February 13. Some 1400 roses were delivered to the school premises earlier in the morning, thanks to the initiative of some secondary school pupils. Students can buy the flowers for one Dutch guilder and with a note designate who they want the flower given to (one US Dollar equals 2.05 Guilders). The worlds biggest flower market in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands, said they expected to handle a record turnover of around 150 million flowers, worth between 80 to 85 million Dutch Guilders (USD 40 to 42 million) which is alsmost double the normal turnover.
