La Tourgue, 1835 (ink drawing)

The French writer Victor Hugo (1802-1885) was also a fabulous painter and romantic cartoonist: ink drawing of La Tourgue (circa 1835), which he described in the novel “" ninety-three "”: “No more gloomy vision than the Tourgue. What we had in front of us was a tall round tower, all alone at the corner of the wood like a criminal. This tower, right on a boulder of peak rock, had almost the Roman aspect as it was correct and solid, and so much in this sturdy mass the idea of power was mixed with the idea of falling "” - see another version of this drawing: GUT2626 -
