The Sphinx Observatory on the Jungfraujoch, taken in August 1950. Two scientists from the University of Manchester, Great Britain, set up their experimental facility on site. The inauguration of the Swiss research institute, the Jungfraujoch high-alpine research station, took place on 4 July 1931. The weather station, which has been in operation since 1922, was integrated into the new building in 1938.
