Portrait of Lord Byron, 1826 (miniature on parchment)
Portrait of Lord Byron (Ritratto di Lord Byron), by Giovanni Battista Gigola, 1826, 19th Century, miniature on parchment
Whole artwork view. The poet, elegantly dressed, is painted in a profile portrait with a hand upon his chin, in an oval with golden decorations; the base of the miniature hosts a band which depicts little winged angels next to a sarcophagus with the inscription L. Byron; two angels hug crying; the others decorate the grave with floral garlands; in the upper part is represented the triumph of the Fame upon Ignorance: a barechested female figure, with a long, flowering stick in her left hand, flies playing the trumpet, while three male characters, represented as parodies, on the right border, tries to stop her pulling her garment
