Saint Zenobius and Saints Eugene and Crescentius, 1482-1484 (fresco)
Saint Zenobius and Saints Eugene and Crescentius (San Zanobi e i santi Eugenio e Crescenzio), by Domenico Ghirlandaio, 1482-1484, 15th century, fresco
Whole artwork view. Located on the eastern wall of the hall of the Lilies, this fresco is about the apotheosis of St. Zenobius between St. Eugene and Crescentius, who were Florentine patron of the diocese, the bishop and his deacons; the bishop is represented enthroned and blessing, the two deacons standing on either side, while in the background there is a lunette of Madonna and child with angels; the checkerboard floor is represented in perspective and the ceiling is blue with gold stars; on the left opens a vault where you can see the city of Florence; to the left of the scene there is the Marzocco, heraldic lion of the city, holding up the flag of Florence, while on the right there is the Florentine red lily on white background
