Image description

Eugène Ionesco ( 1909 – 1994) Romanian-born French playwright, one of the foremost dramatists of the Theatre of the Absurd. His most innovative works were comic one-act nonsense plays, among them The Lesson (1951), The Chairs (1952), The Submission (1955), which conveyed feelings of alienation and the futility of communication. His full-length plays include The Killer (1959) and Exit the King (1962). He won international acclaim and was awarded numerous literary prizes.
