The illustration on this card which was sent from Lepizig depicts the exiled Russian Jews being given a 'warm welcome' in Germany at the 'Inn of the Jolly Onions' (Gasthaus zur fidelen Zwiebel'); the sentiments however are antisemitic in tone, as indicated by the caricature Jewish noses of profiles and the presence of what appear to be the source of the welcome, money bags; pogroms, antisemitism and expulsion of Jews were a feature of Russian history in the 19th century; Les juifs chasses de Russie;
