Anne Morgan (1873-1952) American philanthropist, suffragist, advocate for the rights of workers and women and lover of France, who used her great wealth inherited from her father, the financier, J.P. Morgan, to further the cause of social reform in America in the early 20th century; her love of France led her to provide relief efforts in aid to France during the 1st World War and afterwards; co-founder, with Anne Dike, of the American Committee for Devastated France, she recruited some 350 young American women to assist in this reconstruction, creating a network of visiting nurses, libraries and helping to establish schools; she bought the Chateau of Blérancourt as the headquarters of the work (later to become the Museum of French-American History) and again in the 2nd World War this became a center in 1940 providing medical care and a haven for refugees; she was the first American woman to be appointed a commander of the French Legion of Honour;
