Image description

Two Kashmiri Muslims paint a road divider ahead of the reopening of "Darbar" in Srinagar May 5, 2001. Darbar is an age old tradition of shifting the government offices and Civil secretariat, which house the office of state chief minister and his colleagues, to Jammu, the winter capital of the state, for six months from November to April and then reopening in Srinagar for the remaining six months. Every year before the reopening of Darbar in Srinagar roads and government buildings are painted to give the city a face-lift. Darbar will reopen in Srinagar on May 7. FK/CP
