The cartouche in the top left corner contains a profile through the defences, the scale is decorated with dividers, ships and boats are depicted. This is from a volume of maps and plans of Portsmouth compiled by George Legge, Lieutenant General of Portsmouth (later Baron Dartmouth). Fabvolliere's 'DF' monogram in a star appears on the bottom left.
